Parvej Khan (born December 26, 2004) is an Indian track athlete from Haryana. He won the 1500-meter race in the 2024 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Florida. He also won the gold medal in the 800m at the U-16 Nationals in Mangalgiri and finished third at the U-18 Khelo India Games in 2020.
Parvez won the 1500m title in the 2024 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championship for Collegiate Athletics in Louisiana, USA.
Parvez, 19, is from the Chahalka village of Tawadu Kasba and is currently studying in the United States on a University of Florida scholarship. On Saturday, he won the race at LSU Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge in 3 minutes and 42.73 seconds. His personal best is 3:38.76, set in California last month.
Parvez stated, "Yes, representing India at the Olympics is on my mind. However, qualifying for Paris is difficult because I am far behind others. However, I will give my all to get there."
"I do my workouts every day. People believe in me, therefore I'm working hard every day to carry out my ambitions and, perhaps, reach the Olympic level."
Parvez then ran in the 800m race, finishing third in 1:46.80, just seven-tenths of a second slower than his personal best set in Florida in March.
Parvez won the 1500m in the National Games 2022, breaking the sports record that had stood for 28 years.
Locals are overjoyed and proud of Parvez's accomplishments, and they are streaming into his home to congratulate his parents.
Parvez's brother Khalid stated that at the SEC Track and Field Outdoor Championship 2024, held in Florida, America, Parvez competed in the 1500 m and 800 m events on behalf of the University of Florida, with more than two dozen competitors from other zones of America.
When he won the 1500 meter heat event on Saturday, the locals rejoiced and congratulated him and his family members on their victory.
Khan grew up in Chahalka, a village in Haryana's Mewat region, roughly 50 kilometers south of New Delhi, with low financial resources.
His father, Nafees Ali, helps support the family by growing wheat and fodder on the five acres of land he shares with his siblings.
Despite difficult financial circumstances, Khan had ambitions beyond the confines of his community. His parents did not attend school.
His parents initially discouraged him from participating in athletics, believing he had no future in that field. "There are no players in my hamlet, but I've always been someone who prefers to do things differently.
Khan was inspired to run while physically preparing for army recruiting. He did not have a coach. Even as an adolescent, he often outperformed his older competition.
Khan traveled to New Delhi at the age of 13 after realizing he needed better training possibilities. He began his athletic career by joining the coaching staff at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
However, Khan's triumph in the 1500m at the Open National Championships in Warangal in 2021 catapulted him into the spotlight. He was recruited for the Indian Navy.
Khan won the gold medal in 1500m at the National Games in 2022, clocking 3:40:89, his personal best time. This victory enabled him to join the Indian national camp and then train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado, USA.

The NCAA is a non-profit organization that regulates student athletics in the United States and oversees college athletic programs, with its championships serving as a barometer of sporting prowess across disciplines. Parvej's path to success at this level began in the little village of Chahalka in Nuh, where his father, Nafees Ali, is a farmer who grows wheat on a five-acre property shared with his siblings.
Parvej became the first Indian runner to secure a college scholarship in Division 1 of the NCAA after signing with the University of Florida last year.
During his time at the University of Florida, he won the 2024 SEC Indoor Championship in the mile and was selected a First Team All-American by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. His performances have set new standards and brought honor to his university.
"A boy from Mewat studying in the USA, training and running with Olympians is my son - this feels like a dream we never dreamt, coming true," says Ali.
