South Africa FA will instead focus on putting together a bid to host the 2031 tournament
Instead, they will concentrate on putting together a proposal to host the 2031 tournament.
"We felt that it was better to present a well-prepared bid for the 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup and ensure we put our best foot forward, rather than producing a rushed presentation," Lydia Monyepao, president and CEO of SAFA.
The fact that the Women's World Cup has yet to be assigned has caused criticism. The competition will take place in four years. The hosts of the men's championships in 2026, 2030, and 2034 have already been announced: Canada, Mexico, and the United States for '26, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay for '30, and Saudi Arabia for '34.
"Leading the South African Bid for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup has been a great honour and privilege," stated Tumi Dlamini, chairman of South Africa's 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup Bid. "Football remains one of the world's most unifying sports, and investing in women's sports must remain a priority in South Africa." Investing in women's sports in South Africa will and must be a priority. We wish the remaining bidders the best of luck."
The remaining candidates are a joint bid from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, one from Brazil and another joint bid by Mexico and the United States.
However, the bidding process for the 2027 World Cup will continue, and FIFA will announce the hosts in May 2024.
Australia and New Zealand held the 2023 tournament, which Spain won. The U.S., Mexico and Canada will co-host the men's World Cup in 2026.
